The network's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. In an era often defined by cynicism, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its uniquely offbeat style.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about watching this lovable family go about their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
