The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Has a Plan for How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... Currently.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a massive hit. “God bless the fans,” Gilligan says. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

Now that Season 1 of the acclaimed series wrapping up—and Season 2 already in development—Gilligan and his team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Audience Reaction

One could easily to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and online debates regarding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. I have never searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of his concerted efforts, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by online forums.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Has the creator Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by public opinion, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… in a way.

“There are some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a good idea for a better idea. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, one could always use the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
