People have assembled throughout the country to remember 24 months since the Hamas-led assault on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions advanced in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The incident resulted in in excess of 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others captured away to Gaza as hostages. It was the most most lethal day for Jewish people since the Second World War.

Israel responded by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are regarded as accurate by the UN and other global organizations.

"Our aggressive opponents have caused great damage, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the removal of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will not pose a risk to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The Israeli government rescheduled state memorials until mid-October - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still took place around the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of people killed in the Hamas incident was held in the coastal city. Arranged by the affected families, it was broadcast across Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a minute's silence was held around the country.

Negotiation Talks in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas delegations gathered in the Egyptian coastal city of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of mediated discussions to review the provisions of the plan.

A senior representative familiar with the negotiations indicated that an night meeting of indirect talks began at 19:00 Cairo time.

The official explained the earlier meeting ended without tangible results, because of differences over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not restart combat after the initial stage of the agreement.

He added that the talks are "challenging and have still not achieve any significant progress," but noted that mediators are striving to close the differences between the two sides.

Key Issues in Talks

  • A permanent ceasefire
  • The trade of the prisoners still held by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Post-war management of the area

Public Feeling

In Tel Aviv's memorial area earlier, young a woman - whose family member endured the incident on the outdoor event, where many attendees were murdered and dozens more were taken hostage by Hamas fighters - shared: "No place feels like home anymore and until all the hostages come back not a single person will be secure."

"Once we see everybody home again, we can relax anew. Then we can start to rebuild," she concluded.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in the capital, people gathered to demonstrate their backing for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel reports nearly fifty stay in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be surviving.

Protester one woman stated: "It's necessary do any agreement needed for the hostages to be released. But we sincerely need assurances that we will be safe."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that approximately 70% of Israelis prefer the hostilities to end in return for the liberation of the hostages.

Palestinian Conditions

At the area of the music event, grieving people came together to remember the victims.

From there, the boom of Israeli air strikes and shelling could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers reported the intense Israeli shelling continued.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were reported in the dawn of Tuesday in the western district, Rimal and locality neighbourhoods and in the eastern neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"When the dusk comes, the anxiety arrives with it," evacuated Gaza City resident a local woman, whose teenage son was died by an Israeli bombing previously, described.

"My family are terrified of the bombings. All the night we are lying together, clinging, notably my smallest child who rests his head on me the entire evening."

"Every second we check the news to see developments. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be finalized and that the fighting will come back to us."

Health Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area said it had accepted the corpses of six people by the afternoon, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli strike in the southern area.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of the city reported two more dead people had been transported. A person was died by Israeli troops while looking for assistance to the southern area, health workers stated.

The territory's health ministry said twenty-five of the {territ
