Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as the country executed strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the United States has remained silent.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have shot down missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to rise up against the government.

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.
Officials reported missile fragments landed in a populated district in the capital, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
