Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features a few notable changes:
- Every squad has only 8 real players, with the remaining made up of 32 bots.
- Activities done by human gamers award complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
In short, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives additional choices for gamers looking for alternative methods to have fun with the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are mad.
Community Responses: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while another lists everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," while someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
All that said, there are valid points to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for other modes due to the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the current modes. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
