Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot conceded that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his future following a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got plenty of support from management,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my role. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Response
Slot highlighted familiar shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell like this with outcomes so bad.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is gone, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to its rightful place, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
